We would like to extend our sincere congratulations to successful candidates for Mayor, Council and School Boards. We look forward to hearing from and working with all of you.
But those who ran and came up short also deserve our thanks. They put their names and money on the line because they believe in public service, and thought they could help make their community better. It’s never fun to lose, but we sincerely hope your sense of community is not diminished. There are lots of local committees, non-profits and other volunteer organizations that could benefit from your passion and drive.
Finally, to those who voted: thank you. While 33 per cent turnout in Kelowna could be higher, it was up from 20 per cent in 2008. In municipal, provincial and federal politics, the best way to make your voice heard is to vote.
