Two upcoming sporting events in Kelowna are receiving $8,000 in funding from the provincial government’s Hosting BC program to help stage the competitions.

The BC Snowboard Association will get a $5,000 grant in support of the 2015 IPC Para-Snowboard Cross World Cups, held January 18-22, 2015. The Association will also receive $3,000 to stage the Like Me Snowboard Series Provincial Finals from March 6-8, 2015.

“There are more than 18,000 tourism-related businesses in B.C., and Kelowna is home to a great number of them,” says Kelowna-Lake Country MLA Norm Letnick. “Events like these support our local economy and hopefully, bring visitors back once they get a taste of what our city has to offer.”

Hosting BC funds competitive level events that support long-term athlete development plans for B.C.’s provincial sport organizations.

Across B.C., 37 events in 24 communities will share $152,250 in the latest round of Hosting BC grants, provided by the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development and administered by ViaSport, a provincial non-profit leader in promoting sport and physical activity for every British Columbian.
